Clare has just completed a Doctorate in Musical Arts under Professor Rhian Samuel at City University London and Ronan O'Hora at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Her thesis on twentieth-century left-hand piano concertos explores discourses surrounding the body, disability, virtuosity, and the respective roles of composer and performer. Clare completed her undergraduate studies at Cambridge University, where she gained a double first, and received a full award for her postgraduate studies from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Clare has presented conference papers at the universities of Cambridge, Manchester, York, Lancaster and Liverpool Hope, and has given lecture recitals as part of research series at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She is to publish a paper on Benjamin Britten and Paul Wittgenstein in the forthcoming volume Benjamin Britten: echoes of time and place, and was convenor for the RMA Study Day 'Performing Musicology' which took place at City University London on June 17th 2011.
Clare currently supervises at the University of Cambridge in Music Analysis and Performance Studies, regularly directs performance workshops for undergraduate students at universities across the UK, and has led a seminar on Performance Studies for Master's students at City University London.
